What you need to know before travelling from South Africa to Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe called a national lockdown onto the country until 1 March 2021 with a curfew from 20:00 to 05:30. However, air travel remained open for leisure travellers while land borders were only open for returning residents and essential services – including commercial and transit cargo carriers.

What you need to know about Zimbabwe is that it’s a country with many languages. The languages of Zimbabwe are 16 official languages, holding a Guinness book of world record for most official languages. Before you travel to Zimbabwe, get to know those languages.

The thundering Victoria Falls.When travelling between destinations as a visitor, you are required to provide documentation of bookings at the national parks and tourism facilities you plan to visit, according to Go2Africa.

Lodges and hotels are exempt from the mandatory lockdown business closures.

International travel is open and according to Go2Africa, upon arrival visitors need to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result certificate that was obtained within 48 hours of departure for Zimbabwe.

If a visitor shows symptoms of the virus or doesn’t have a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate on arrival – they are required to stay at a designated isolation facility for 7 days, and then isolate for another 7 days after they’ve left the facility.

Visitors will be charged a fee of $60 for being tested at ports of entry.

Visitors will undergo health screening and temperature testing at the airport before they enter the country. Once entry has been gained by a traveller they need to remember to follow the basic COVID-19 restrictions such as social distancing as well as keeping a mask on at all times.
